If Only 100 People …
The following item came to me, and I thought it worth sharing. It began by stating that the world’s population is now 7 billion. Then it showed what we would see if we could scale that number down: If there were only 100 people, 50 would be female, and 50, male; 26 of these would be children; and only eight would be aged 65 and older. Of those 100, 60 people would be Asian; 15, African; 14, American; and 11, European.
Five of them would speak English, and five, Spanish. Arabic, Hindi, Bengali and Portuguese would all have three fluent speakers each. Twelve would speak Chinese, while 62 would speak other languages; 83 would be literate, 77 would have shelter, and 87 would have access to safe water. Although 15 would be undernourished, 21 would be overweight. Religiously, 33 would be Christians; 22, Muslims; 14, Hindus; seven, Buddhists; 12 would practice other religions; and 12 would not be involved in any religion. This helps put the 7 billion into a little perspective.
