Aubrey Johnson has assembled an all-star cast of writers to address the needs of becoming a better husband. The writers are from diverse backgrounds and ages. The men that Johnson invited to write with him are Ben Hayes, a young and talented minister with a strong counseling background; Cecil May Jr., a preaching sage in the brotherhood; and Lonnie Jones, a powerhouse preacher who has a counseling practice. These men have written a practical and insightful text on improving as a husband.
Let me start by saying this is not a book about football. Although that prospect might excite some readers, it also has the potential to turn many away (especially those who, like me, tend to prefer a nap on Sunday afternoons in the fall).
So the truth is, this is a book about spiritual growth using football to illustrate strategies to achieve this growth. Aubrey Johnson defines the ultimate goal of God’s Game Plan as living the “abundant life,” a term originating from Jesus’ statement in John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (NKJV).
What is this abundant life? It is a life of spiritual forward progress or, in other words, a life of achievement and success, full of blessing and promise for the Christian willing to adhere to its demands. Johnson explains that the abundant life “begins with the decision to play for God’s team, but ultimate victory is not possible without spiritual discipline.”
